Make plans to bring your peeps to the Enterprise Farmers Market for the Eggstraspecial Easter at the Market event!
525 N. Main Street
Saturday, April 5 | 7 a.m. - Noon
The annual Easter at the Farmers Market event returns April 5 from 7 a.m. to noon and includes the 9th annual Devilicious Deviled Egg Contest.
Registration for the contest will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 10 a.m. Contestants must prepare 22 egg servings, which can be whole or half eggs depending on the entry design and recipe. The first dish must be 12 servings plated to be judged on presentation. The second dish, of the same recipe, must be 10 servings and will be judged on taste.
“The Devilicious Deviled Egg contest is a great motivator to investigate the origins of the dish and the modernization of the classic recipes that have been modified to include ingredients such a pimento cheese, tuna and jalapenos,” Special Events Coordinator Kay Kirkland said. “Almost all of us have great memories of our mother’s or grandmother’s deviled eggs. Whether we are still trying to perfect an old recipe or have explored new and more modern versions, we still rely on the
versatile deviled egg as an appetizer, side dish, or snack.”
Eggs will be judged on the following categories: Most Devilicous (Best Tasting), Most Eggsquisite (Most Beautiful), Most Eggstraditional (Best Traditional Recipe), Most Eggstraordinary (Best Non-Traditional), and Most Eggcellent (Best Overall). Categories are scored on taste, texture of the filling, use of ingredients, originality/creativity, plating and presentation.
A People’s Choice Award will also be bestowed upon one of the egg entries by a panel of tasters to be chosen from Farmers Market visitors on the day of the event. Those who wish to be a judge can register starting at 9 a.m. and participant names will be drawn at 10 a.m.
The winners in each category will be awarded $50 cash, with the opportunity to win up to $300. All winners will be announced at 11 a.m. and contestants must be present to win.
“Whether your style is classic or creative, you’re encouraged to create delicious bites that just might win you a cash prize. This contest is really a tribute to a great Southern dinner staple, a must-have at every party, and a really good snack on a lazy Sunday afternoon.”
In addition to the contests, the Enterprise Farmers Market, located at 525 N. Main Street, will feature more than 30 vendor booths with fresh seasonal produce, farm-raised beef, home baked items and an array of arts and crafts by local vendors. The Easter Bunny and the Peep will be hopping around the market and available for photos.
